Having known each other for almost two decades and having already released each other’s records on their respective labels, this record marks the first “true” musical collaboration between Izc and Répéter. Even though they share a lot of common ground, this isn’t a meeting of minds so much as a collision of half-finished ideas and shared distrust of easy resolutions.
“Neon End Tides”, drifts in on a classic half-step pulse, synths humming like distant machinery, warm but detached. The bass guitar anchors the track with a deep, resonant presence. Warbly tape echo seeps through, wrapping the sound in a haze that feels half-remembered, half-dreamed. It’s ambient dub that lingers, unsettled, like a transmission from a place that never quite existed.
Quite contrary, “Lies Are Told About Daily Life” sounds like a science fiction samba: Hard-hitting, minimalist stop-and-go attacks, which seem on the verge of falling apart, are carried by a simple yet effective dub bassline. An uneasily morphing modular synth line creates a restless, shifting landscape on top of a syncopated batucada loop that dances with field recordings and industrial clonks.
Off-World Exotica that doesn’t comfort but hums with something dark and unresolved.
