After a three-year hiatus, Répéter returns with a limited-edition 7” lathe cut - just 33 copies - shedding the sun-bleached surf-rock of past releases for the shadowy allure of Exotica. Channeling the psychedelic qualities of dub - deep bass, hypnotic percussion, and languid guitar weave a sonic tightrope walk: playfully surreal one moment, plunging into moody, hallucinatory depths the next.
‘Boredom at the Belly-free Buffet’ stars the towering, wild-man energy of Svenski Skilift - howling like a deranged bluesman and pounding congas with the reckless abandon of a cartoon savage let loose in a smoke-filled lounge bar. The track crackles with the raw, unpolished spirit of a 1950s jazz-blues band - walking bass, wailing vibraphone, and jagged guitar stabs - all anchored by a primitive, hypnotic rhythm, driven by insistent handclaps and a steady, almost tribal pulse. Yet beneath the primal stomp and the sweaty, neon-lit energy, there’s a gnawing emptiness - a sound that captures that unsettling ache of modern excess: drowning in plenty, yet starving for something real.
‘Too Many Lawyers’ is a dub-drenched lounge version loosely based on ‘The Lobbyist’ (released in 2017 on "In Fine Style" via Bokeh Versions) , where the wonky beat stumbles and lurches like a drunk spy trying to keep his cover. The rhythm feels deliberately unsteady - always on the verge of tripping over itself - while the bassline slinks through the mix, heavy with unspoken secrets. Tamborims flicker like coded messages, the vibraphone glints with suspicion, and the whole scene hums with the question: Is it paranoia, or are those suits at the bar looking right at you?
